Let's do a Compare/Contrast.....

All of you teachers out there will appreciate this... gotta love Graphic Organizers.

Long story short, I hit a pin with the Bernina yesterday.  I wasn't speed-demon sewing by any means and had actually just reached to take the pin out when the needle went down.  Nothing broke, but when I got the pin out I noticed the needle was a little off kilter.  So I took Bernie down to the shop and heaven knows what it will cost me.

Today I decided to put the FW up on the table.  Oh my... what a difference.  Thus the Venn Diagram

I took Bonnie's seam guide do-jiggy and made sure I knew where the 1/4-inch hit on the FW and low and behold found out the seam on Bernie is just a smidge off.

The FW looks so small!!! But after doing the Compare/Contrast - in the end - all that matters is that it SEWS!!!!

Have a great day!

A humbling thought.....

Kevin is downstairs working on Duncan... yes I named the treadle.  He has so much more patience than I do.  In this picture he has a piece of string (for lack of a better word) and is getting into all the trim on the stand.  We are waiting for the parts to arrive to get it up and running.

Anyway, I started to think of something while I was watching him.  In a 100 years, will someone walk through an antique market and find my Bernina and wonder about the woman who owned it?  Will this person think about all the hours spent creating and wonder what was created?  Will my quilts be looked upon as objects of love?

I think the next time I find an antique machine or quilt, I'm going to take a few extra minutes and think about  the lady or gent that first had the pleasure of owning them.

Have a great day!

Cheddar Bowtie Update

Today after getting some of those necessary chores underway and done, I decided to go into the sewing room and get something creative accomplished.  I was working on a jelly roll top and decided to use my cheddar bowties as leader/enders.

The center of the quilt top got done - sorry no picture, not enough light - and these are the bowties.  I think they are too cute.  As you can see I have a lot of blues and greens.  Tonight I'm piecing more and have gotten into the pinks and reds.

Tomorrow we will be traveling to Philly to see Beth and pick up her laptop.  It was accidentally knocked onto the floor and needs to go to Staples so it can get fixed... thank God for accident insurance.

Later!

My day off....

Today was a day off for me; I did my conferences last fall so today is the day we have off.  So what did I do?  I went antiquing with my husband.

The centers of each flower are starting to shred
Water damaged, but lovely

Was so 'hand made'.. the blocks on the edges were wonky

In such sad shape... well loved
Never heard of this brand before

These guys are the only thing that came home with me....

Intervention!!!!!

I need one.  I so need one.

No longer can I find something in the sale bin and say "That will make a great border on a scrappy quilt".
No longer can I lust after fat quarter bundles.
No longer can I say "What if someone has a baby....I'll have to make a quilt"
No longer..............

Oh for heaven sake...seriously????? Where did all of this come from?

I'm thinking I need to price it and sell some of it.  Is Etsy the way to go?  Is it worth it?

So enjoy the visual of my insanity.

In for a penny......

I bought some solid cheddar.  Actually I think the name was "School Bus Yellow".  It's Kona, and I love it.  I decided I would make some cheddar bowties.

In for a penny, in for a pound.  I had no idea how full my strip drawers were, and I haven't even gotten to the light drawer.  Also, I'm sure there are fabrics in the 2.5 and 3.5 drawers that aren't in the 2-inch drawer.  One good thing is that the drawers will be straightened up again.

I know I don't have enough to make a huge quilt, so it will what it is.

Add another project to the list of WIPs.  I think I'm up to about seven now.

The sky looks like snow, and it is trying off and on... I don't think it will amount to much, but it looks pretty while it falls.

Have a happy day!!!

Culling, cleaning, and grading....

I spent some time last week cleaning out my Google reader blog list.  I had to.  I wasn't reading all of them anyway and barely reading those I truly wanted to keep up with.  Time is limited, and I want to make the most of what I have.

What's on the agenda this weekend???

Well, the realization that the girls are back at college has hit home and I cleaned the bathroom and emptied the dishwasher this morning.  Why they didn't train the cat to do these chores is beyond me.  Running the 'sucky-thing' has to be done at some point.... don't think the cat was trained on that either.

I have reports to grade for school.  I managed to get 11 done the other night.... totally amazed me.  This is a learning process for them.... and some have more to learn than others.

Tomorrow there is a sale at the LQS.  I need to get some more red and grey fabric to work on Beth's quilt, so I have made myself wait for the sale.  I'm hoping that they still have the fabric I am using.

Supposedly we are waiting for some snow.  The sky doesn't look like snow, but who knows.  And I'm waiting to hear from Abby.... she and some friends went to Punxsatawney to see the groundhog this morning.

Have a good day everyone!!!!
