IUP... and other stuff

We spent Sunday and Tuesday taking Abby to IUP (Indiana University of PA) for her orientation. It is a lovely campus. Of course, living in Shippensburg and graduating from Shippensburg I tend to unconsciously compare everything to the campus at Shippensburg (how many times can I type Shippensburg in one sentence LOL). IUP sits on a higher hill than Shipp, and with all of the new suite dormitory buildings it looks much (higher). But the older part of campus is lovely, with lots of huge oak trees of different varieties. Jimmy Stewart is from Indiana; there is a statue of him downtown. Abby told me he went to the lab school on campus as a child. I think Shirley Jones is from Indiana also.

Of course I took the new camera and got artsy with it. As many of you know my favorite color is RED, and I found a clump of the most beautiful, brilliant, red Bee Balm and had to climb up on the retaining wall to get some pictures. Now I have to find some place that carries it and plant it in my flowerbeds.

Also, on the way home we got to see many of the wind-turbines that have been placed in the hills of western PA.  I know, I'm a geek, and the picture isn't that great because it was taken with my phone.  When we take Abby up in August I'll get some decent shots with my camera (that is if I am not crying too much).

So that has been my week so far. Hope everyone else is having a wonderful week. The heat is slowly creeping in again, so the A/C is back on. Quilty Hugs!

Bitten by the bug.....

Ever since Kevin bought me my first antique quilt at an estate sale I've been hooked. Now when we have a moment to go to flea markets and such, I look for quilts. Some are in really bad shape. Some it is difficult to tell exactly how old they really are. Some I can tell are newer that people make to 'look' old. Yesterday we had some time to kill while Abby and Beth were at a graduation party so we went to the flea market. I saw one baby quilt with a price of $200 dollars on it... WAY out of my price range. But I did find this. Don't you love it? And see how the artist added strips along the bowties to make them all fit? The backing is pretty wild (purples, greens, yellows) and it almost made me think it was a modern fabric. But, the backing was turned over for the binding and it is worn all the way around. Now this orphan has a home.  Have a great day!

So proud....

Abby and Beth are graduating from high school tomorrow. They are my babies.... the last two.  I wonder if I can fit an entire box of Puffs in my purse.

Finally.............

Finally, finally........... it is finished! I love 1930s reproduction prints and many moons ago (I think probably close to 5 years) I decided to make a sampler quilt and perhaps use it is a block of the month class. Needless to say it took a while to complete - I decided to hand quilt it to make it look old. I love it! I think the applique border sets it off just beautifully. Now to move on to the next hand-quilting project.... a quilt for hubby to use when he goes re-enacting. Have a wonderful day!
