Patches for Lissa

I was blog surfing today and came upon the story of a woman who is extremely ill and fighting for her life. Her name is Lissa, and you can find her story here.

Jane at Jane's Fabric and Quilts is collecting blocks to make a quilt for Lissa.

Please take a moment to read Lissa's story and perhaps take five minutes to make a block to send to Jane.

This has really helped me put my life in perspective.... somehow things don't seem so bad after all.

Quilt Odyssey 2010

Another successful year at Quilty Odyssey for the Sundae Quilters!!!!

For the last 3-4 years, a bunch of us have volunteered to go up to Hershey and sell raffle tickets for our guild. We take turns sitting at the table, seeing the show, and shopping in the vendors mall.

Eight of us went up yesterday. I love sitting at the table and talking to people, finding out where they are from. About two hours after we got there a gal walked by and I said "Quilting Cat!?!"... Amy turned around and I introduced myself as Patchwork Penguin. It was nice to meet a blog friend up close and personal.

The merchant mall was packed as usual. I managed to get out with a few FQs, a couple of notions, and a pattern. Oh, my moment of insanity returned when I bought a small pack of 1/2-inch hexagons. Judie said she would visit me in my rubber room.

About 4 pm Belinda and I went to find Bonnie Hunter. She was teaching at Odyssey this year. We found her downstairs teaching her class... hugged and squealed when we saw each other. We left her to finish her class and then returned at 5 pm to help her pack (she was done) and then we went to supper at Friendly's.... it is a tradition for us (thus the name Sundae Quilters). I returned Bonnie at 6:45 for Show-n-Tell (was so sad to say goodbye); returned to Friendly's to pick up the girls and then went to Quiltmaker's Cottage down the road.

Quiltmaker's Cottage is a nice shop and they were just featured in the McCall's Sampler magazine. I picked up a couple more patterns while I was there and then after braving the heat we returned home.

It was a great day; we now have a new Sundae Quilter - Shelley - who is in the process of moving to Gettysburg from California with her husband. She will fit in marvelously!!!

I didn't take a lot of pictures... but here are two that I thought were lovely.

Ok, enough yapping. Enjoy your day!

Switching Gears

July is almost over and it is time for me to switch gears and get ready for the first semester of the new school year.

Since I switched jobs in the middle of last year, I haven't taught this curriculum yet so I have some work to do. Thankfully I was able to get together with one of the other Social Studies teachers yesterday and he took me through the curriculum and lent me his materials to build upon.

I also have some work to do for Language Arts. Right now I'm in the process of building an Elements of Literature powerpoint as a review... and just finished my Eight Parts of Speech power point review.

I do have some quilty projects on the back burner, and maybe if I can get myself uber-orgranized, I can actually take a couple of days each week before school starts and keep sewing. Might be a little difficult since the laptop is sitting on top of the sewing table and Mr. Bernina has been pushed down.

Oh the tangled web I weave........

Feast or Famine

video
One week ago (even two days ago), you couldn't have convinced me that this would happen any time soon.

And, in the time it took to make the video, upload it on the laptop, upload it to blogger, and post.... the rain is over.

But it was nice while it lasted :o)

Door Dent

You know, I have come to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe, Kevin and I should not buy new/nearly new cars.

Today, the HHR (one year old this month) was 'door dinged'. No I don't have a picture of it, because honestly you wouldn't be able to see it. But this chick, in her kermit green Mustang, didn't hang on to her door and put just a crease in my passenger door.  I must say I am glad that she stuck around to tell me.... Kevin wasn't too happy though.  Now I have to wait and see if it can be pushed out, or we need a new door panel.

So, this is three for three.... the PT Cruiser was totaled (when I was driving); the deer jumped in front of the van (when I was driving)... and now this.

Maybe a horse and buggy wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.

43 Flower Wednesday

Ok, it is supposed to be ONE Flower Wednesday... but I am so far behind in my posting that I figured I'd post them all. I know that I have shown some of these to you, but being a fossil (as my 8th graders so said), I can't remember which ones you saw.

So... here are the first 43 flowers..... only 87 more to go. *sigh*

Here are some closeups. Just click on the pictures to see them up close and personal :o)

Perfect night for.....

Warm but very low humidity. Slight breeze.  Kevin, Abby, and Beth enjoying roasting and flaming marshmallows..

Yum!!!!

Wonder what Smokey is thinking.....

Swap Blocks

I finished my Chimney Sweep swap blocks. I must admit that this block caused more frustration than I ever intended it too, but thanks to one swapper who shared some construction tips, I think it will be a wonderful collection of blocks.

I chose to use cheddar yellow for mine. I just love how the cheddar pops in a quilt (ala Bonnie Hunter).

So hopefully the other gals in the swap are having success with their blocks as well. We will soon see.

It is a super movie.......

Take your tissues......

Finally.... a completed UFO Challenge Project

Yeah!! I finally completed January's UFO Challenge.

This is the Crayon Box pattern from Bonnie Hunter. I changed it up a little, using 2-inch strips. I also got carried away making sashing so I used it in a make-shift border at the top and bottom to make the quilt more rectangular.

Donna quilted it on her Milli in a meander pattern using a hot pink thread.... it looks so cool.

Needless to say, my 2-inch strip drawer is full again.

Hope you all are having a wonderful quilting day!

Can anyone help?

I need to ask a favor. If you have a nearby shop that carries various colors of Kona Cotton and you can get a Fat Quarter cut, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm looking for Paprika. All I need is a Fat Quarter... and I'd love to send something back that you would like.

Thanks so much!         FOUND IT!!!!

When the little voice inside you says "Those pieces don't look right together"....

LISTEN TO IT!!!!

*sigh*

It's 7:20 pm.....

I'm ready for autumn!!!

There is a reason..................

As i get older, I am learning to believe that things happen for a reason. It could be an event, a relationship, being in the right place at the right time.

There is a reason I met Judie. The relationship I have with her is so very special to me and I cherish it every day. There are few years between us, so sometimes I find myself looking upon her as the 'mom' relationship I wasn't given with my own mother. Then there are times she is like my big sister. I do have an older sister in Vermont, but she is 10 years older than me and we never were that close. Then there are times when Judie is my best friend. We laugh, we share, we give, we take. I love her so much and am so glad she is a part of my life.

Ok, I can hear her saying "enough mooshy stuff"; let's quilt.

Huggers Judie!

The Before and After......

No points counting, no nutrition facts read..... just pure YUM!

So, how did I do that?

I had a couple of people ask me just how I take the pic of the Random Generator and while I did email one back with what I thought was the procedure I found out that what I was told didn't work.

So, after some trial and error, I really did figure it out.

I have a Dell laptop, so these instructions are using a PC... but I'm sure MAC people could figure it out with a little variation.

1. Go to the Random Number Generator page on the web (I just typed it into my address bar).
2. Generate your number
3. Click the Print Screen button at the top of the keyboard.
4. Open up Paint (or whatever editing program you have).
5. On the Edit tab, click PASTE.
6. File, Save As (I save it as a JPEG).
7. Open your photo software (I have Windows Live Gallery)
8. Open the picture of the Generator page that you saved from Paint.
9. Crop the photo down to the actual generator.
10. Save it again.
11. Upload the picture into your post.

Does that make sense?

It is one of those things that you have to try and do to help understand the procedure. I just had to find my print screen button LOL

Good Luck!
