I love it!!!!

My cordless mouse rates up there with:

1. Blueberry Beer (don't have this too often)
2. Sex (too tired for this anymore)
3. Chocolate (got a whole bag in my desk drawer at school)

oh heck......... I just loved this little piece of plastic and wires!!!! Life is so much easier now. (isn't it sad that this is the biggest thrill in my life right now???)

Hope you are having a good day!!!

UFO Challenge update

Needless to say with this job shift I am not getting any sewing time in. So my UFO challenge is going to be trying to keep my head above water.

Julie got her challenge done for January and it is really cute. I love scrappy!!!

And another UFO is born.........

I allowed myself some sewing time today; and while my original goal was 15 minutes, it turned into a lot more. I wanted to get these blocks into a top. So most of the top is done, but I'm going to have to make some half blocks/half sashing pieces for around the sides so that the star cornerstones are complete.

The pattern is from Kim.... and dates back to October, 2008 (that is when I made the blocks)

Adding this to the UFO pile..............

Extreme blog makeover

Thanks to Paula, I now have a three column blog. She did a fantastic job and I am so grateful to her.

Thanks Paula!!!

A day late and a sashing short............

Starting this new teaching position has put me back to square one. Even though I have inherited a great deal of material, I want to put my own twist on it, which translates into a lot of work because I'll want it 'just right'.

Last I missed the Friday Night Sew-in, so I'm allowing myself some sewing time this morning. Nothing major, just some scrappy blocks that I made at a guild retreat a couple of years ago. I got the pattern from Kim . Oh wow!! This tutorial was posted in October, 2008... so it has been a while since I made these.

So my UFO challenge each month is more to allow myself the 15 minutes a day to sew and then if I get something finished from my list on the sidebar I have an added bonus.

Incredibly moving.......................

My step-mother emailed me a link to YouTube of a Ukrainian sand artist that performed on Ukraine's Got Talent.

The art depicts the impact of the German invasion of Russia during WWII. It is absolutely amazing!!!

Chimney Sweep block

I love quilters. I have never met 99.9% of you in person yet you are so helpful in helping me find some directions/examples for this block.

I hadn't thought to look at Bonnie Hunter's directions in the January issue of Quiltmaker. She calls it "Old Kentucky Album...... same block, just a different color way.

A couple comments said they'd be interested in a swap. I'll have to think about this. If I would do it, the blocks would have to be due after school lets out in June. I know I don't have time to swap out things during the semester.

Ok, back to grading papers!!

I want to make this........

and I want to do it in Civil War prints OR in 30's prints. I'd love to make it as a signature quilt.

This was something I ripped out of an American Patchwork & Quilting magazine (October 2009. It has some really odd shaped pieces in it, and while they tell you the size of the rectangles, they don't tell you what size to cut the squares to make the side and corner triangles. I guess you have to figure that part out on your own.

Wouldn't it make a great swap block? It is called Chimney Sweep, and I've tried to find directions for it on line (like at but I can't find it. Is there another name for this block? I apologize for the glare.

I might end up making it anyway.......... someday.

Times they are a-changin'......................

Honestly I am not a Bob Dylan fan.... I just thought that line was appropriate.

There are some changes coming down the pike for me. I have been teaching half-time for the last year and a half and yesterday found out that I have been awarded a full time position in the Middle School; 8th Grade Social Studies and Language Arts. The change happens on the 25th of this month at the semester change.

I have mixed feelings about this. The idea of having a full-time job is exciting and American History is my thing. But I have thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with World Cultures and my 10th graders this year are phenomenal kids!!! I feel like I'm abandoning them... but I know they will be ok.

Obviously this is going to impact my quilting time. I'll have to sneak time in here and there.

Ok, back to grading papers.... and making up a mid-term/final.

Aren't they cute!!!

The girls were watching a movie yesterday and when I came up for air (working on my unit for school) I found them like this in the beanbag. It reminded me of when they were little and would both climb into a laundry basket with their blankies and watch Sesame Street.

The Ever-Changing, Evolution of a Quilter's Creative Cave.....

In other words, I re-arranged again.

I had to. For those of you who have read me in the past, you know I moved about every three years growing up (Dad worked for GE). Needless to say I finally figured out that my urge to rearrange furniture is probably psychological since I had the opportunity (or hell) to move into a new house so often.

Anyway, one of my goals for this holiday break was to clean up and re-arrange (is that one word?) the Quilting Cave (I wonder if I can change my blog name to that.... but that would confuse everyone).

I was feeling a little overwhelmed with school stuff; writing a new unit and over-thinking as I usually do, when I said 'to hell with it', put the school stuff in a nice neat pile in the other room, and starting moving things around.

The two guiding elements was keeping the flap up on my Horn cabinet and not having my back to the overhead light. Well, maybe there is one more element - hubby won't let me block registers or air returns (he so practical - I love him).

So this is what I came up with. I actually have room under the table, not blocking the register, since the flap is up on the table (do you keep your flap up??? hehehe)

Now I need to find a chair without arms on it........ that will mean a trip over to the in-laws when it isn't windy.

Quilty Hugs!!

Dark-thirty, AM, Morning......

No matter what you say................... 5:15 is just too damn early.

It will be wicked hard to get up tomorrow morning and go back to school.

Playing with the blog

I've been thinking about going to a three column blog. I found a tutorial on line and while I've done what it said twice, it still isn't working.

Oh well, I'll figure it out sometime. Right now I have to get to work on school stuff.

January UFO Challenge

Abby helped me pick the number for January yesterday. We got creative and made a video. Abby was being helpful, Beth was being goofy in the background.

The numbers chosen will also be listed on the sidebar if you have trouble accessing the video.

Happy Quilting!
