Busy, Busy Today!!!

Today was a busy day..... brain wise that is.

The course that I teach is being restructured and I am to come up with a unit on Asia. Being a person that has to totally concentrate on what I am doing when it comes to school, I spent most of the day organizing my thoughts and getting a start on it.

As my reward, I started thinking about how I want to border my chunky churndash top that I made at retreat last weekend. Thankfully I have just enough of the red that I used in the hourglass blocks to make a one inch pieced border; then I'm going to put a one inch tan border. I wanted so badly to use something in my stash for the wider border but alas it shall not be. I found a really nice Civil War print of the rusty-red/tan flowers on dark brown at Hancocks of Paducah and just ordered three yards of it. I'll have enough for unpieced borders, the binding, and maybe part of the backing. I like to make scrappy backings for scrappy quilts... it helps to use up the stash.

And to top off a really great day, my hubby had put a crock-pot of chili on last night and it slow cooked nearly 24 hours. YUMMMMMMMMMMY!!!! I love it when I can go out and **POOF** supper is on the table. He's definitely a keeper.

SSCS Swap Received

Kevin just brought the mail in and low and behold my SSCS swap has arrived. Thank you to Cathy Underhill from Victoria, Australia.

I'm so trying to be good and not open it 'till Christmas.... but it's sooooooooooo hard!!!!

My kind of Black Friday shopping

I was bad.... but when honey buns are $9.95 I couldn't resist. I want to use them to make the journal covers at the Moda Bake Shop.

Of course that will probably be after school lets out.

Head over to Green Fairy Quilts and check out her sale.

I also got a jelly roll... I'll use it someday.

Our Thanksgiving

First of all I must apologize... I think some thought the picture on my previous post was actually my table. Martha Stewart I am not.... it was a picture I found on the web.

So here is my table and family. From left to right... my MIL, Beth, Abby, FIL, Erin, and hubby Kevin. The picture of the pumpkin pie is Beth's.... just a little pie with ALOT of whipped cream.

Of course we cannot have a post without a picture of Smokey. She wasn't into the whole celebration thing and decided to sack out on Abby's new quilt.

Hope you all had a wonderful day!!

and to you and yours............

a Happy Thanksgiving.

The bird went in the oven about 45 minutes ago.... we are eating a five. I have potatoes to peel, stuffing to mix up and bake, and whatever else I need to do that my mother-in-law isn't.

While I'm waiting for the next step in the meal prep, I'm working on a Christmas table runner I've had cut out for a year. It's going to be a holiday gift for my secret angel.

Bless you all and thank you for being my friends and blog neighbors. Have a wonderful day!

Retreat and all things accomplished

I almost didn't go.... you know, feeling I should be doing teacher stuff. So then about Tuesday I said "I'm going!!!"

Seven of the Sundae Quilters decided to exchange scrap strips and do Bonnie Hunter's Chunky Churndash. What a hoot exchanging the strips!!!! Believe it or not I managed to get the center of my top finished..... that felt really good.

Here is a pic of my and my top. More pics can be found at the Sundae Quilters blog.... follow the link on my side bar.

Can't wait for spring!!

It's official.......

Christmas is coming. Ok, so I know I usually get the CDs out and start playing them in October, but honestly this year that didn't happen. Abby made me a play list on my Itunes just of my Christmas songs, but even that didn't get played until this weekend.

The radio station has gone totally Christmas, 24/7. I'm not that bad.

But for your enjoyment, here is a clip from one of the all-time favorite Holiday flicks.... "White Christmas"

Enjoy!!

Have I Shown You These?????

Anymore I can't tell if I'm coming or going; and I can't remember if I shared these with you.

When school let out last June I went on a top-piecing binge. Then I took the tops to Donna.... my BFF Longarmer . She does great work and I'm always pleased with how my quilts look.

Anyway, the Halloween quilt was originally going to be a swap of stars made with Halloween prints. That didn't happen, so I took my Halloween prints and just decided to make a Turning 20 Again. I love how that quilt comes together so quickly. Then with the leftover hunks, I pieced the backing. Being such a busy quilt, Donna and I decided that meandering was the best way to go, and I think it turned out great!

The scrappy quilt was a swap we did at my guild a couple of years ago. We used the Buckeye Beauty block from Quilterscache; I love Marcia's website and she is so generous to share the patterns for free. Doing a scrappy block swap was a stretch for some of the ladies but I think they did a great job. Donna did some fantastic ruler work on this and I think it makes the quilt really shine.

So that is my eye-candy for now. I'm hoping to get a top made next weekend at retreat; I so need to get away.

Quilty Hugs!!

Feeling well enough to want to cook

Well...... to boil some pasta at least.

I had some mini bowtie pasta, so I boiled it, drained, added olive oil and red wine vinegar, yellow sweet pepper, salt, pepper, fresh parsley (the end of it for the year), dried basil and garlic powder. Then Kevin suggested chopping up some ham. It was good!!!

This is the first time in a week I've wanted to eat.

I think I've turned the corner. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes!!! I really do appreciate them.

"FINE" is totally subjective you know

Ok, maybe I'm not so fine. I have pneumonia. Been told STRONGLY to stay home tomorrow which I am going to do. I can go back to school on Monday.

*sigh*.... I have so much to do.

I feel FINE!!!

Can you tell I'm feeling better? I'm getting fiesty..... and except for the cough, I feel fine.

So I went to school today (despite doctor's orders; I know..... yell at me later). I have an obligation to my kids.... and I have two conferences tonight. I took my antibiotic with me and, as stated in the directions, took it on an empty stomach. WRONG!!!!

I took that *(#($&)$ pill and the next thing I knew I felt like I was gonna go down. I sent my daughter down the hall to get an icepack and then called the nurse. Well I didn't think they were gonna bring the wheelchair and the entire med kit!!!!

My BP popped up to 150/100.... I think that was frustration more than anything. I called the doctor, they ordered a chest x-ray and I have to go back in to see the doctor this afternoon.

I FEEL FINE!!! I know I do.... I'm eating.... which I haven't done since Friday; at least not on a regular basis.

This is so nuts................... I'm going to insist on switching the antibiotic. This Doxycycline stuff is for the birds. I'll stick with my Z-pac any day.

Ok, thanks for letting me vent. Have a wonderful day!!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog read for this illness update.......

(imagine the funky news music playing here)

First of all I want to thank everyone for the well-wishes. It helps to know there are people thinking about me out there. There is so much nasty stuff floating around and working in a school building only compounds the issue.

Anyway, I stayed home today and just got home from the doctor!!! I have bronchitis and just caught my ears before the went into infection mode. So I now have an antibiotic and while she wants me to stay home tomorrow that isn't going to happen..... I have more parent-teacher conferences. I just won't talk alot.... I know that will bother the kids but they will get over it (hehehehe)

Of course the upside is.... no appetite means I've lost 8 pounds. Wonder how long this will last.

Hugs!

We're sorry; the earliest we can see you is Friday....

I could be dead by Friday!!!!

Ok, so I'm being a bit mel0dramatic, but I feel like crap. This cough is not going away and my temp keeps floating between 99.2 and 100.whatever

Thanks for letting me vent. Hope you and yours are a lot healthier than I.
