Fran's Birthday Tea Party

Yesterday was Fran's birthday. She is one of my Sundae Quilter buddies. Her friend Bonnie (in the blue hat) called Judie and Judie called the rest of us........and well, we had a Tea Party. It was a lot of fun and the tea was yummy-licious. I had Pear Pomegranat (however it's spelled). Some of the other teas tasted were Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Pecan Swirl, Raspberry Mint, and Pumpkin Spice.

Fran was totally surprised as you can see by her expression walking through the doorway. The group picture from left to right is me, Judie, Fran, Bonnie, and Carla.

I wonder who we will surprise next.

12 days, 3 hours

I have 12 days, 3 hours left. And we all know that the last 2-3 days (and the three hours) don't mean a hill of beans, and one of those days is a field trip to Washington, DC, so in reality, I have 8 days left.

So now to figure out how to 'fight two world wars, and deal with 20th Century Genocide' in 8 days. I can do this!!!

Blogiversary!!!!!

To borrow the words of my friend Amy................ HOLY BUCKETS!!!!

I just realized tomorrow is my blogiversary. With school coming to an end I totally lost track of time.

Quilt for my mentor

As quilters, we always find the easiest way to say thank you is to give a gift from our heart. I did this for my mentor teacher.

Ginny loves tea......... she always has a cup of tea in her hands. When I found this teacup fabric I couldn't resist.

I gave her the quilt today and she was totally surprised (sorry no pic, didn't even think about the camera). She was carrying it around showing it to everyone during her planning period.

Next week, my secret angel who is retiring will get hers.

A new member of Blogland

I teach quilting classes at the local quilt shop and one of my students has offically joined the world of blogging. She is just starting out but I have a feeling it won't take long for her to start posting more and more.

The next on-going project

I had proposed a swap on a list but it didn't fly, so I decided to make the blocks anyway.

This is the Double T block from Quilterscache. It is a 12" finished block and there are four different florals in each block. I really like the way they look on point; I still have to make a few more for a total of 18. You get a secondary pattern of a Shoo-Fly block with the white fabric.

I'm trying to decide if I should sash between them, and what color if I do. I'm thinking a very pale green for the side triangles..... and maybe a picket-fence border and some flowers appliqued in the upper left and lower right corners (am I nuts???!!!)

Would love to hear what your opinions are on the sashing/borders issue. It always feels good to know I have some extra brain power out there to help me out.

Hooked on Hexies

I've discovered Hexagons!!!

Two weeks ago when Mr. Penguin and I were traveling to Richmond, VA to see the eldest daughter and pick up her fridge, I decided I needed an 'in the car" project. So that morning I quickly cut out some 2.5" squares, grabbed the pre-cut hexagons that I had purchased at Lancaster years ago, and went to it.

I'm hooked!!!

I decided to use my 30's prints. I'm trying to pair up prints (size and color) that compliment each other and use a solid for the center that goes with both. I think they are turning out well so far. I found the nifty box at Wal-mart to hold everything.

So that is one of many projects I'm working on right now. School is winding down (17.5 days left) and hopefully I'll get some sewing done this summer.

What makes it a salad?

I just finished my ham salad sandwich........... it was very yummiful by the way. But now, being in one of those contemplative moods that strikes now and then, I'm wondering WHY is ham salad a salad? Why is chicken salad a salad?

I think of salad as something that has lettuce and assorted veggies in it. Sometimes you add eggs, meat, dried fruit, nuts, etc., but I see Ham salad as diced up ham and mayo, maybe some pickle or pepper. So why is it a salad?

According to Dictionary.com a salad, which is a noun by the way, is any of various dishes consisting of foods, as meat, seafood, eggs, pasta, or fruit, prepared singly or combined, usually cut up, mixed with a dressing, and served cold: chicken salad; potato salad.

So i guess that answers my question.

Now on to the Coconut Cream Pie. Don't worry, I'm not contemplating why this is pie; I'm just enjoying it for what it is.

Let's just say that the space-time continuum should not be tampered with.

Haven't had any for two weeks

Sewing!!! Haven't had any sewing for two weeks.

Part of the reason was school. I've been busy getting things developed, typed up, copied, etc.

The other reason was that I got a new machine (traded in the Viking D1) and I needed to wait for the insert for my Horn Cabinet (my MIL got it for me for my birthday).

So today I am taking time to sew and get to know Miss Aurora. I decided to work on my Double T block that were intended for a swap that may or may not happen now.

I'd love to hear from any of you that own the Bernina 440. I must admit, it does sew much more quietly than the 150.

And admit it........... that title did get your attention didn't it???!!!???
