UFO Challenge for May

Ok, tomorrow is May 1 and it's time to choose another number for the UFO challenge.

May is #6 (as chosen by my daughter, Beth) ........... I'm still working on March and April. Maybe I'll get them done when school is over.

Spending time with my home-girls

On Saturday, my friend Donna hosted a get-together for my birthday with a few of our friends from guild. Of course, I didn't think to get the camera out of my bag until after people started going home but I do have the memories.

We had such a good time gabbing, giggling, and just sharing in our daily lives. It was a great way to spend my birthday and I am so thankful these gals (and may others who couldn't be there) are in my life.

The grass is always greener................

Growing up I had the opportunity to see a great many places. My father worked for General Electric and he was transferred quite a few times. I lived in Ohio (twice), Tennessee, Kentucky, New York, Maryland, and finally settled in Pennsylvania.

Living where I do now, Washington, DC, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia....... they are all only a hop, skip, and a jump away, and to think of all there is to see between!!!

So why does the grass always seem greener???? I get to read blogs from all over the world and always think "Oh I would love to see that place". I have always wished I could just blink my eyes (yes I watched Jeannie) and POOF, I'd be there. If they would hurry up and invent the transporter system (Trekkie Power) I'd be the first one on it.

Oh well, I'll just keep dreaming and reading. Hope you all have a wonderful day!!!

I got my hair cut today, and then I decided to splurge a little. I'm not a girly-girl type (don't say a word Miss Beth), but I decided to get my nails done.

These are a natural look with a gel fill. The gal said that the gel doesn't have the odor that acrylic does........ I honestly wouldn't know.

Anyway, I think they look nice for the first time. I did have them polished but it was taking too long to dry and I kept messing it up........... so I'll polish them some other time when I don't have to get into a bunch of stuff.

So Happy Birthday to Me!! and soon there will be something for you :o)

Simon speechless

I'm not a big American Idol fan, but I do love it when someone surprises Simon and renders him speechless.

I found this on Yahoo today; a woman blew them away at Britain's Got Talent. Her voice is incredible and according to the article, Simon is going to try and sign her to a record deal.

Weekender Tote

Well I got the Weekender Tote made today. It is a Penny Sturges pattern. I have two versions of it for some reason but I think one may be a corrected version. So with some trial and error I got it done.

The fabrics are from a jelly roll in the Charisma line that my friend Beth gave me.

I really love the way it turned out. Now I just need to find a button for it and it's good to go.

Guild Challenge 2009

Our guild does a challenge every year. This year the committee and I came up with the idea of using Black and White with one other color.

I decided to use lime green and straight line quilt most of it (free motion in the green border) with a lime green Masterpiece thread on the Bernina.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out. In honor of my daughter's upcoming trip to New York to see Wicked, I'm naming it Elphaba - the Wicked Witch of the West.

Mini Miranda bag

I am trying to get some ideas together for classes at the LQS. Some of my regular students have asked for a bag class. So between yesterday and today, I put together this Mini Miranda Bag by Lazy Girl Designs. This is the second time I've made this pattern, only this time instead of putting two panels together for the front/back I used one piece. The advantage of using the two panels is the center seam is helpful when placing the handles.

Anyway, I'm thinking this can be done in a day, as long as the pieces are cut ahead of time and their cover and bottom pieces are quilted prior to class.

I really like this pattern; only next time I think I'll try using a magnetic closure instead of the Fabric Fusion Velcro. I'll have to remember to put the magnetic thing in before I turn and close up the lining.

Totally nuts

All those who agree that I was totally insane to go to the Local Quilt shop for a yard of fabric, traveling down the interstate in the rain the day before Easter please raise your hands.

PS The rain stopped when I got home.......... go figure.

De-stashing = Donating

Today is the first day of our Easter break. I am so happy that we did not have a second snow day this year........... or today would have been the day to lose.

Anyway, I am sitting here in the sewing room and the Reality Fairy has just smacked me with her wand. You know the message....... "When are you really going to use all of this fabric and why are hanging onto it????"

So I have pulled out AT LEAST 50 yards (probably more) of florals, white-on-whites, etc that I will be donating to our guild for baby quilts and QOVs. All of the white fabrics are in the bag; the florals, etc in the stack.

In doing so I found one wall of my sewing room.............. It was blocked by the stack.

Honestly...................this feels good. Why not give fabric to a good cause when you know you are never going to get around to using it? I know that someone somewhere will appreciate it.

Virus Warning

So I'm surfing my blog roll and I clicked on "The Pioneer Woman" and all of the sudden my lap top starts squealing and the little man inside (yes, I know there is a little man inside, maybe an Oompa Loompa..... I know this because he talks to me) says "Warning!! A virus has been detected!"

It was like a combination of the Robot on Lost in Space and the Red Alert siren from Star Trek.

Anyway, I had looked at the Pioneer Woman's post through bloglines earlier and she said her server had crashed. I really hope this virus isn't the reason why.

So I've sent a message to my BFF asking her to email about this and perhaps it can be fixed. In the mean time I just won't visit the blog (sniff sniff) and I hope none of you that visit it experience this virus warning thing........... almost pee'd my pants.

What do do, what to do

I love 30's repro fabrics. I've loved them since I was little. There was a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt that I used to keep on my bed, and needless to say it was loved so much that all I have is one block. I have since found out that it was my sisters and was made by our mother.

As you can see, my collection of 30's fabrics runneth over. So I think I've narrowed down my decision as to what to do with them to three choices.

1. Crayon Box

2. Pineapple Blossom

3. Strip Twist

These are all Bonnie Hunter patterns and I know with minimal prep time, I can have the pieces ready to take to retreat on April 17th. Of course, there are other projects I can take that I really need to finish.......... but it is always so much more fun to start something new and feel like I am busting stash.

*SIGH*............ desicions, decisions. What's a girl to do????

Coke vs Pepsi

I'm sure that some of you are mature enough to remember the Coke vs Pepsi war a few years back. Personally I'm a Coke Classic girl. I grew up with Coke. My grandmother had the 6 oz bottles in her fridge all the time. When Coke came out with the "new" recipe I stopped drinking it.

So as I sit here and drink a Pepsi (that is what they have in the machines in the faculty room at school) I was just wondering........

Are you a Coke or a Pepsi fan? I know there are alot of 'flavor's out there, but let's just stick to the general title of Coke or Pepsi. If you have minute, take the poll on my side bar (obviously I had nothing pressing to do at this moment in time and felt like being nosey).
