Figuring out the 'new' laptop

Well it isn't exactly new. This is the lap top (is that one word?) that my FIL bought for Erin when she went off to Randolph-Macon four years ago. When she was accepted into University of Richmond Law School, there was an opportunity to get a new lap top through the school. So, this one has come home and been cleaned off and had a new hard drive installed. So now there won't be anymore "MOM!! It's my turn!!!".......... well at least not as much.
Now....... how do I get bloglines on this thing............

We have survived!!!!!

Well the germ has made its way through the house....... even hubby (Thanksgiving Day) and the oldest (law student) got it. Now the objective is to get her well and send her back to Richmond tomorrow.

Thanksgiving is cancelled due to illness

Well the stomach bug (crap) is moving through the family. Hopefully hubby and the law student won't get it but you never know.

Needless to say we have decided to cancel Thanksgiving..... well the meal at least. Cooking a bird isn't on my list of desireable things to do tomorrow and I don't want to expose my husband's 88 year old grandmother to this junk.

So to all of my blog friends who will be celebrating tomorrow, have a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the time you have with your family if however brief. Eat happy and sleep well.

Hugs!

I have received an award

Julie has chosen me as one of her 10 coolest blogs...... thank you Julie. Feeling cool is kind of nice right now with a house full of sickies running around for the holiday. Thank you to Rhonda for starting this award on its way.

So the rules are:

1. Post about the award

2. Link back to Rhonda.

3. Place the award on my sidebar

4. Choose 10 blogs that I think are cool
So here are my 10:

2. Nancy at Blogging Near Philadelphia
3. Beth's Quilts
4. Vicki from Field Trips in Fiber
5. Judy from Patchwork Times
6. Pauline, down under, at Calico Crossroads
7. Katie in My Sandbox
8. Suzan, whom I don't believe is a Reluctant Quilter
9. Tazzie, also from Down Under
10. Arlette, at the Polka Dot Pineapple

So, take a minute and see what prolific quilters and crafter's these ladies are. I want to be them when I grow up.

Something is going around and it started hitting me yesterday. One of the twins was home sick with it yesterday............. me today. Sometimes being home sick is worse than going to school sick, but this time the germ won and I went in last night and got plans together for the sub.
Well back to my Lazy-boy and quilt!
Hugs!

Getting ready for teaching at the quilt shop

I've been asked to teach at the quilt shop after the holidays. I'm going to be teaching Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Happy Houses and a Graham Cracker Quilt. I also do a series of block classes; a different block each month. The ladies like these as they are low cost and they get to learn and practice piecing techniques.
These are the blocks I'm going to teach. All of them are twelve inch blocks except for the orange/green one. It is a fun time and the ladies seem to enjoy the classes.
Happy Quilting!

Home from Retreat

This past weekend was our Chambersburg Quilt Guild Retreat. We do this twice a year... usually October/November and then again in March/April (depending on when Easter falls).

My friends and I were having a ball as usual. Carla brought her iPOD and BOSE system dock so we had lots of good tunes. We were even doing the Cha Cha Slide. Here's a picture of Beth pressing some blocks; Fran working on her Stack'n Whack, Belinda and her Flamingo, Judie quilting on a quilt, and Carla sewing away.

I got a "This and that" bag made and most of my "Black/White and One other Color " challenge done. I also got the center of a table runner done.

And......... I even took some papers to grade but my 'dreaded red pens' died so I had to quit......... you think that someone was trying to tell me something?

Old Red Barn Co. Giveaway

I was spending some time blog surfing today and came across a giveaway from the Old Red Barn Co. Aren't these quilts beautiful????? Head on over and leave a comment for your chance to win (of course I'm going to win one, so that only leaves a 1 out of 2 chance for you....... hehehe).

Bambi Won

Around 5:30 this evening I was headed into school to get some things ready for tomorrow. All of the sudden a deer landed in front of me.......... I had no where to go.

The radiator is messed up - the cap is now facing forward instead of up. We can't open the hood. You can see the rest of the damage. In the close-up you can see the fur. The deer went flying into someone's front yard....... I don't know what happened to it. From the damage to the van I know it wont' make it.

After living here for 28 years....... and this is the first time. I guess it was my turn.
UPDATE: Since I only hit the deer, the deductible is only $50. Now we are waiting for the adjuster to decide if it's totalled. I'm stiff and sore but surviving. Thank you all for the well wishes. Hugs!!!

Abby's Treasure Box

I found these little 'boxes' made and shown on another blog. It is Abby's Treasure Box from This and That. The directions are a little vague, or maybe its the drawings, or maybe its the fact that I was tired last night when I was working on it.

This morning it seemed better and I got it finished. Hope the recipient likes it.

Charm party tote

I got my charm party tote finished last night. The charms were a hostess gift from a swap I had put together. I used a light tan Moda marble for the interior and found a yard of one of the fabrics on ebay to make the handles.

I thought it turned out well. I'm trying to decide if I want to add a tabbed enclosure. I'm also wondering if I can go back and put in the magnetic closures. Might have to open up the lining seam on the bottom and see if it will work.

Oops, sorry for thinking out loud LOL..........

Soda in a Glass Bottle

I just finished my lunch. After I left school (it is a blessing only having to teach a 1/2 day) I stopped at a local deli and got a sandwich, chips, and a Stewart's Soda in a glass bottle.

Why does soda in a glass bottle seem to taste that much better? I remember when you got soda in glass and had to use the bottle opener. We even had one attached to our picnic table that my father built...... one that actually said Coca-Cola on it (we used to refer to all soda as Coke). My grandmother kept 6 ounce bottles of Coke and Orange Crush in her fridge........ don't you just love Grandmothers????

Something about a glass bottle........ Yum!

Parent-Teacher Conference Time

It's that time of year - parent teacher conferences. Honestly I don't mind them. Since I only teach part time I only have to put in 3-1/2 hours for conferences in order to get November 11 off. So between emails, phone calls, and 'live' conferences I'll make that time without a problem.

Of course, the parents I need to see don't come and I'm not sure how to deal with that. But that is another post.

Fall Table Runner

I took this picture the other night and forgot to post the picture. We have secret angels at school, and my angel's birthday is Wednesday. So I decided to make her a fall tablerunner for her Thanksgiving table.

Hope she likes it.

Housing market is booming here!!!

I've been cutting fabric strips and making more houses. You can see that my taste in fabrics run from very sedate to pretty wild and out there. I have enough cut to make 24 houses. I thought it best to make the ones I have cut so I don't end up cutting duplicates.

These are too fun!!! Thanks Bonnie!!!
