Had to rearrange the sewing room

My friend Beth knows I love to rearrange my furniture. This used to drive my husband crazy until I realized why I was doing it. My father worked for General Electric and we moved every three years; so every three years I got a new house......... so moving furniture is psychological.

Well with the heat pump project, I was told I HAD to move things away from the registers in the sewing room. *SIGH* Ok, so its moving the furniture and yes I am trying to keep things as neat as possible (Disregard picture #3 please). But do you notice the one thing I don't have up in my sewing room??????

Yes, the ironing board. and there isn't an outlet on the outside wall for me to use (that was one request I made of my Father-in-law two years ago....... before all of this other stuff started).

So, reluctantly last night I moved things around and am still trying to figure out where to put things. The up side of this is that the room got cleaned up and the floor swept. I guess this means I need to use up more fabric (in my spare time when I'm not teaching or making up lesson plans.

Happy Labor Day!

Light Yogurt

What is the purpose of "LIGHT" Yogurt? I like yogurt, most of it anyway....... but if it is supposed to be healthy to begin with..... why do we need to put aspertame in it and call it "LIGHT"????

Artificial sweetner is probably why I don't like Diet Soda......... and I definitely won't be buying "LIGHT" yogurt again.

YUCK!

For Sara

My daughter Erin's best friend from high school graduated from the Coast Guard academy this year. She is stationed on the west coast. My friend Beth showed me this pattern called "Graham Cracker" and I decided it would be a neat way to use a jelly roll from The Hamptons line by Moda. The border fabric is also from the line. The backing fabric is something I got a year or so ago, not knowing what I was going to do with it. It JUST fit the back, with nothing to spare from top to bottom.

Cousin It

Remember the Addam's Family? Well the other night my daughter Beth was drying her hair and decided to pay homage to Cousin It. What more can I say?

Going back to work

After 24 years (I graduated with my BSEd in 1984), getting married, raising three kids, and subbing for what seems like forever, I am finally hired!!!!! New teacher orientation is three days next week; in-service is two days the following week, and school starts on September 2.
I'll be teaching 10th Grade World Cultures. Granted, it has been a while since I touched this subject, but I think it will all fall into place once I get going.
Needless to say, my sewing time is going to be hurtin'....................I guess you really can't have your cake and eat it too.
Keep your fingers crossed!

I found the link to the Kids Quilts blog on Quilt Dad's blog. I thought it looked interesting. I have some orphan blocks that I have been hanging on to and thought it would be a good place to send them. You can click on the picture on the sidebar for more information.

Great book series

I discovered a series of books by Debbie Macomber. The stories center around a yarn shop, the different women who visit, their lives and how they interact. It sort of reminds me of the Elm Creek books but the Blossom Street books are about knitting. I want to learn how to knit...... in my spare time. I have this unusual urge to knit socks!!!

Life Lion

Life Lion was here today....... again. As much as the sound of it coming in fascinates me, it always bothers me because I know that someone, somewhere, was in a serious enough accident for them to call in the crew from Hershey Medical Center. It circled over the house when it came in, then landed in the ball field behind the firehouse.

This is the best picture I could get as it was leaving........ sort of reminds me of a UFO. I hope whomever is in it gets well soon.

Miranda Bag

I'm a little behind on the Miranda bag craze. I finally got around to buying the pattern about a month ago and while I was at it I found this blue/tan fabric line and thought it would make up nicely over the pattern.

My oldest daughter (the one leaving for law school in 11 days) spotted it and thought it looked pretty neat............ so I asked her if she wanted me to make it for her. "YES" was the answer, and she chose to get the wooden handles instead of me making the cloth handles.

The pattern was super easy to follow and I know I'll be making one for me soon. There is lots of room inside as you can see. If you haven't made one, take a day and try it.

Circle, Circle, who's got the Circles!!!

Today was a fun day. I went over to my Quiltin Sister Judie's house and made circles. We counted the total number she needs, around 250, and we got 75 made. We used the mylar circle thingies by Karen Kay Buckley. Needless to say by 3 pm we were getting a little loopy - this happens when making half-inch circles and sniffing spray starch all day.

For some reason the picture looks yellow........ her background fabric does have an off white tint to it. But I wanted you to see what she has completed so far, the circles that we made, and the picture of what it will look like when she is finished. I figure three more days like today and the circles will be completed.

Another flimsy completed

Don't you feel lucky! It's picture day in my house.

This quilt is for Abby...... she is my purple girl. I've always loved Sun Bonnet Sue and if I had been quilting when all of my girls were little they would have had a quilt a long time ago.

The Sues are appliqued using freezer paper. The bowties are from various swaps and ones that I have made.

Thanks to Judy Laquidara's encouragement (and saying it was "OK") I went ahead with my original plan to put the bowties around the outside and have the top/bottom and side purple borders two different widths (to accommodate the bowties).

So this one has moved up to the 'needs quilted and bound' list. Now to work on some more Sues and get the other two flimsies made and quilted. I am hoping to hand quilt, but who knows.

This is my cat............

This is my cat on drugs.

Smokey is obviously ashamed of her catnip addiction or she wouldn't have turned away from the camera.

Silly kitty.

These are a few of my favorite things.........

With the humidity down and the temps in the low to mid 80's, I decided it was a good day to bake chocolate chip cookies. For some reason the song from Sound of Music popped into my head and I thought I'd share a few of my favorite things with you.

1. Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies
2. Beautiful flowers
3. Cats
4. Quilts
5. Music (jamming to Eric Clapton while typing this, though somehow being part of the Classic Rock Generation makes me feel like an old car some time, especially when a kid says ' you know about Led Zepplin?')
6. Ice cream
7. The color Red
8. My kids (99% of the time)
9. Cool evenings sitting on the swing with my hubby
10. Waking up to a new day each morning.

Ok, I've listed 10 things.... and I'm sure there are dozens more. What are your favorite things? See what you can think of and list them on your blog.... I'd love to read them.
