Some more Lazy Cat Pictures

Smokey is the Big Grey Lump....... Violet is the Long Brown Stringbean............. need I say more???

Happy Birthday to You!!!

Yesterday was my husband's 46th birthday. He has officially joined me on the downside of the last decade before hitting the big Five-O (I feel like McGarrett saying that LOL).

We had his favorite meal, brats and dogs on the grill, homemade macaroni salad, chips, and then a Lemon Dreamsicle Cake and homemade vanilla ice cream with peanut butter sauce (the kids wanted that).

The kids picked out a sound card for him.....it was set up like Star Wars....... on the front it said "A long, long, time ago........." and when you open it up it plays the theme from Star Wars and you see "You were born". I had nothing to do with this one, I just purchased it.

Kevin is a big Allison Kraus and Union Station Fan and the other day he noticed that Dan Tyminsky (from her band, he sings the lead vocal on Man of Constant Sorrow from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou) had a new CD out he conveniently dropped the hint. I also got him another CD by someone I thought he'd like.

I think he had a happy birthday.

The OOOOOOOO, AHHHHHHHHHH Quilt

I've had quite a few responses with suggestions on what to name the Orange/Red/Yellow/Purple Stripey thing on my last post.

So, since the suggestions centered around things that are amazing to look at (fireworks, beautiful flowers, spinning pinwheels), I've decided to call it the "OOOOOOOOOO, AHHHHHHHHHH" Quilt.

Thanks for your help!!!

What to name this?

This is a UFO I started at retreat about 2-3 years ago. I had the strips cut and took them to a retreat, didn't do anything with them. The next retreat I got the strip sets together; the next one I got the triangles cut.

So this winter I decided it was time to put it together. Needless to say the top sat for a while until I got the back pieced.

I machine quilted it using my Viking and my walking foot in the main part, my free motion foot in the border. I thought it turned out well.

Time for a Kitty Picture

Abby was lying on the couch the other day and, like any good cat, Violet took up residence on the quilt.

Isn't she the cutest thing?

This is just too weird

What Nancy Ann Means

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily.

When do you count it "out of your stash"?

Beth and I were discussing this question this evening......... "When do you count it out of your stash?"

I have noticed on Vicki's and Judy's blogs that they post and in and out listing of their stash used or acquired toward their goal of 100 yards out of the stash. But what counts as out?

Beth said that if you take stash, cut it up, and make blocks then it is out because you can't put it back as stash. She also pointed out that maybe it isn't counted as 'out' until the quilt is finished.

So, my question to you is........ "When do you count it as OUT"?

10.5 Yards Busted

It is absolutely amazing how fast you can bust stash when piecing a backing. My husband's great aunt is getting a quilt and my friend who has a Milli is going to quilt it for me. The quilt is 94x110 so I needed a HUGE piece of fabric for the back. I had purchased a bolt of pink/floral a while back when it was in the sale bin... it had around 11 yards on it. Well now it is going to be the back of this quilt.

Wonder what else I can bust out of my stash......................

Slapped with Reality

I decided to take some time and measure all of my UFO quilt tops. After that I decided to organize them into tops that are ready to quilt and tops that need borders and then quilted.

Or course, this mean that I needed to re-arrange my side bar a little bit. So now, I have my projects listed as completed, needing quilted and bound, or needing bordered, quilted, and bound.

I know, I probably just did a bunch of busy work. But it makes me feel good about what I'm doing.

In the blink of an eye

Tim Russert died today. Why do I feel it significant to post this on my blog? Two weeks ago this incredibly influential man spoke at my daughter's graduation from college. My daughter got to shake his hand and speak with him before the ceremony.

His speech was short, to the point and dotted with humor as only Tim Russert could do. He acknowledged his father and the influence he had on his life. He told these 234 young people that they alone could make the life they wanted for themselves and to not give up trying to achieve their goals.

Then in Tim Russert style, he donned his Randolph-Macon ball cap, said "Go Yellow Jackets" and graciously said good-bye, noting he had to return to Washington to cover the 'ongoing Clinton-Obama campaign'.

I remember sitting there listening to him and thinking what a wonderful speaker he is...... getting down to their level, speaking to them in terms they understand.

It is amazing what can happen in life when you aren't looking. I blinked........... and now Tim Russert is gone. What an amazing man.

I need an AC Tech

Ok I'm sure you are wondering why I have a picture of a Central AC Unit on my blog. Well I don't think ours is working and I can't get my hubby to realize that.

I know it was hot last weekend, but I would think that if the AC is set at 75 it should be a lot cooler than 85 in the house. I mean, in the evening, after the sun went down, it was cooler outside than it was inside!!!

Since it cooled down last night I turned the *#(&$# thing off and opened the windows. Best nights sleep I've had in a while. At 46, HEAT is not my favorite four letter word!!!

Is it just me or is something wrong here? If any of you are AC savvy (or are married to someone who is) and can offer some advice, please do. I would greatly appreciate it.

Strawberry Fields Forever

The new graduate and I went to get more strawberries this morning. I wasn't sure what we would find as it has been beyond wicked hot here (and everywhere else on the east coast). Surprisingly they were in good shape. I used six quart for more jam (17 more jars) and the child said she wanted Bisquick strawberry shortcakes instead of a pie for dessert. Ok, that is two more quart cut up. There are two more quart in the fridge waiting to be cut up and frozen for future strawberry ice cream.

I am hoping to get one more pie made this season........ but that depends on the heat and the berries.

Strawberries!!! Strawberries!! Strawberries!!!!

Guess what season it is???? Last night my hubby and I made 24 jars of jam. There is also some more in a box in the fridge that I didn't have clean jars for. I want to buy 9 more quart of berries and make at least 24 more jars....... hopefully that should last us the year. But the way my kids eat strawberry jam, who knows.

This morning I got ambitious and made a strawberry pie. It is so easy. Water, sugar, cornstarch, and strawberry jello......... plus the berries and a baked pie crust. YUM!!!!! Abby thought we needed to blog a picture of the pie, so she took the picture before I cut into it.

My baby has graduated

Oh my where did the time go????? She was just a little baby in her diaper and her little Winnie-the-Pooh suit, kicking her chubby little legs and squealing in her crib. Now she is graduated from college and getting ready to attend law school.

This is my daughter Erin. I am so proud of her. She has grown into an an incredible young woman over the past four years. Ok, I'm ready to cry again, better just get this posted.
