I'm a great-auntie!!!!

Carson Maxwell was born today... 7 lbs 7 oz. My sister called..... I wasn't home of course.

Anyway, the quilt was mailed to Vermont today!! I'm so excited!!!

Another finish on the list

Another finish!!! Well... finished according to the list. I finished putting together my Buckey Beauty Quilt top. We swapped this blocks in my guild this year. This is my first venture into totally scrappy. I really like it. My husband came up with the idea for the piano key border... what a sweetie.
I used the Buckeye Beauty block pattern at Quilterscache. I love Marcia's website... she is so generous to share her patterns.

Of course now I have to add "quilt the buckeye beauty' to the 'to do' list. Oh well... a quilter's fun is never done.

  • hand quilt on the URR quilt
  • make 12 Buckeye Beauty blocks

Another Finish

I just finished binding the baby quilt I posted on a few days ago. Now I need to call my sister and find out if we have a baby yet.

Thanks to the 'smart child' I crossed it off of my "to do" list.

Seven Random Facts About Me

1. Thanks to General Electric, I never lived more than 3 years in one place growing up.

"Smart" children..... ...

I know, I know...... your kids are supposed to benefit from new technology, theories, ideas, etc........... and yes it does come to your advantage to make sure your kids do pay attention and learn.

So, my daughter Abby, and her friend Megan, have now introduced me to HTML coding. They showed me how to 'strike through' the things on my "TO DO" list when I complete them. Thank you girls..... I'll make sure to email your Tech Ed teacher and let him know you've actually been paying attention.

And God Bless all of those that do this coding for a living. My brain would be mush.

Smokey - the Odd Cat

Well I guess not so odd because the cat we used to have did the same thing. Anyway, daughter Beth came running downstairs, grabbed the camera and said "Smokey is in the sink!!!". Here is the result.

I'm going to be a Great Aunty

My nephew and his significant other are expecting. We don't know what flavor the child is so I'm calling it my "niecephew".

Anyway, I just finished putting the final border on it and now I have to piece the flannel backing, lay it out, pin baste and quilt.

Hope he/she likes fishies!!!

Weekly Update February 17

Ok, I make goals and do everything but LOL.............

What I accomplished:
  • visited the friend and test-drove the HQ16.... still thinking
  • Got the final border on the Carolina Crossroads quilt
  • made 7 more Buckeye Beauty blocks to add to those from the guild swap
  • put together some 3.5 inch four patches by doing the leader/ender technique from Bonnie Hunter

My goals for next week:

  • put the final border on the baby quilt for my nephew's 'soon to be' son/daughter (not sure what we are getting)
  • quilt and bind the above mentioned baby quilt
  • put the borders on Erin's quilt (this keeps moving from week to week - you think it is telling me something)
  • Hand quilt on my Underground Railroad
  • make 12 more Buckeye Beauty blocks

Maybe setting goals isn't my thing LOL........... I can't seem to follow what I set... and get stuff done that I never thought to put on the list.

My Sewing Room

My "BFF" Beth (you know, like the Verizon commercial...... yes we do talk for hours on the phone) said I needed to show her a picture of my sewing since I decided to re-arrange.......... AGAIN!

So here it is.

Carolina Crossroads Top is finished

I finally got the borders finished on my Carolina Crossroads top.... this is the mystery that Bonnie Hunter shared with us. It is hard to see, but the outer most border is black with white polka dots. This fabric shows up now and then in the body of the quilt.

From the beginning I had decided that the border had to contain nine-patches to carry the theme of the quilt out to the ends. Little did I know that after making 280 nine-patch blocks for the quilt, plus the Half Square Units for the set in triangles..... then adding 88 more nine-patch blocks on for the border, I would have nearly 3000 one-inch squares in the body of my quilt.

Now to get it quilted.

Weekly Update February 10

I didn't get much done this week. The oldest was home from school for J-term break and she likes to be entertained. Honestly I don't mind, I can't believe she is 21 and ready to fly the nest. Where did the time go?

Accomplishments:

  • used my new(used) Viking D1 and put binding on a shop sample Turning 20 Again

Goals:

  • put border's on Erin's quilt
  • put final border on my Carolina Crossroads mystery (finally got that one figured out)
  • convince hubby that the HQ16 my friend is selling is a really good deal (wish me luck on that one)

Hugs all!!

Weekly Update February 2

Happy Groundhog Day!!! No idea if the other PA resident saw his shadow.... not like we aren't going to get six more weeks of winter anyway.

So much for my goals. I managed to leave my border fabric for the baby quilt at the shop when I used it as a sample so that didn't get done. And I didn't get the borders on Erin's quilt and she is coming home today for J-term break so that project is now in hiding.

So here is what I did:

  • put the rail fence blocks together for the baby quilt

  • finished Underground Railroad blocks for a good friend

  • managed to bury my table, again

My goals for this week:

  • find my table again

  • put the borders on the baby quilt, get it quilted and mailed to Vermont

  • finish the Underground Railroad top for my friend

  • spend time with Erin

Again, not very exciting, but manageable (didn't I say that last week?)
